A Salad. How... Ordinary.

Might as well begin with a little recipe of my own. I call it, dum dum dum! The salad.

Wow. Sounds boring? Not really. Its a load of fun to toss together, it feeds a bunch of people depending on how hungry they are, and how huge your lettuce is. Annnd... its simple to make!

Do remember that my motto is "If it works, it works!" (Yes, its new). Food recipes are for you to understand the basic mechanics of cooking. You can ALWAYS alter the recipe to suit your own taste. IF you know how your changes affects the end product.

Give it a go!

Heres what you need to feed 4-6 people (4 if salad is going to be all you eat. 6 if its a side dish):

1 Huge tossing bowl
1 Large Onion
1/2 Head of USA lettuce
4 Small eggs
4 Small USA Red potatoes (Red skinned potatos are good for salads.
Dont use brown ones.)
4 Heaping tablespoons of Mayonaise
1 Medium sized carrot.
Some Crushed black peppercorns.
Many Shakings of Bacon Bits. Mc Comick or Betty works. Can be omitted if you
dont like em.

See? I had some guess-timation in some ingredients. Add to taste, as I always say.

1) Boil the potatoes, start with a pot of cool water with a couple of pinches of salt. Boil till a knife inserted meets almost no resistance. Drain the water, and rest the potatoes. Chop them in quarters when they are cooler (about 30mins)

2) Boil the eggs from cool water, lid closed. When the water is to a boil, turn off the flame and let the eggs steep in the hot water to cook. After about 15mins, drain the water, and peel the eggs. Chop into slides, then halve those if you want smaller bits.

2) Wash the lettuce, chop them into fine bits. Horizontally first, then vertically. Like making tiny lettuce cubes. Yes, thats it! Chuck the bits into the huge tossing bowl. No, you dont toss the bowl, you toss the salad.

3) Wash and shred the carrots on top the the lettuce in the huge tossing bowl. Its now Orange!

4) Peel down and chop up the onion. Large bits if you like em crunchy. Small bits to hide them from people who "think" they cant stand onion. Watch them chomp down happily on the salad. Most of them wont notice the onion, its true!

5) Add in the mayonaise and black peppercorns. Its time to shake it up! Make sure everything done thus far has gone into the huge tossing bowl! Use 2 spoons (forks would poke holes into your food), and gently lift the mix of veggies from the bottom up. Gently would do, just repeat a few times to ensure its well mixed.

If all goes well, you now have this :

22nd feb, 09 Self made salad

Toss on the bacon bits, then GOGOGO! :D

Comments on the recipe are welcome, add in your own input if you want. Food improvements are good improvements :D

-=Rence has returned=-

How long has it been since my last post?

1 year?

2?

3?

Somewhere around 2 I reckon. Well, since I decided to breathe a little back into this blog, here I am. Hope I dont bore the crap out of anyone reading, but this should be a taste of whats going to appear here.

Food and drink.

Thats what I am going to focus on. Probably a small surprise for those who know me. After all, who doesnt like food? Or drink.

Will be posting soon. Scheduled for Fosters: "An English Rose Cafe" this Saturday. It has never disappointed me, so it should prove a joy to write about.

Cheers!

FOOD!

Blogger sucks SO MUCH at moving photos around. Anyone knows of a blog which lets photos be upped and edited easily? Drop me a comment.

Anyways. Heres food 1 from 2 weeks ago. We had a crazy good food week :)

On the right is the Cream Dory fillet from Fisherman's Wharve. Its opposite Clark Quay MRT.

$6.50 gets you a huge serving of dory, and a massive basketful of fries. The dory in the picture is about the size of my forearm. 3/4 the size of my forearm, to be exact. Huge.

Definately worth the $6.50, and the time it takes to get there. The batter is rich and crisp, leaving a wonderful tinge on the tongue. The dory itself is fresh and falls apart in the mouth.

You get a choice of either fries or chips. Chips are cut from potatoes, and you can taste the potatoey goodness in every one. The fries are great too, it tastes like chips with more crispness and abit less potato.

All you need to go along with this is a nice, cool beer. Cheers!

1) Sorry Sonn. I would do quirks, but i dont have 6 people to tag. I dont read blogs much.
2) Some people really, REALLY need to grow up. 2 people come to mind at the moment. A certain WH and BT fit the bill. Bloody kids.
3) Being high doesnt feel high no more. Damn.

Revelation!

As Albert Einstein would have put it.

I now know 1 more way how NOT to make popped corn.

Corn kernels not all popped. Small problem there.

Too much sauce in the container I was shaking the corn with. Big mistake. I ended up with a small, tiny volume of wet-hen popped corn. Soggy and butter saturated. Bleh.

I know better next time!

Note to self.

Never. Ever. Ever. Drink. Rancid. Coffee.

Why, you may ask?

Let me tell you the story.

Its 1230am. I havent covered much CH1005 Material Science, and the exam is on Monday. So I decided, "Hey, what the hell, lets get some coffee!"

I opened the little tub that contained this coffee, it smelt a little funny, granted, but I didnt take much notice. I proceeded to tip the container and shake, hoping to get out a little brew into my cup. Voila! The whole tub of coffee (roughly 150grams) managed to dump itself into my hot water. And dormitory floor.

Great. I had a super strong, bitter brew right there. And a floor of coffee to clean up. That was all cool. Till I tasted the stuff.

You must know, that I drink coffee without sugar or milk. Just the bitter, if you please.

What I tasted was 150% pure bitter rancidness. Like. Woah. Spacy. Maybe the high of a pot smoker on pot. I dunno. But WoAh.

Went to throw out the cup. Had to scrub down the sink too. Blasted stuff.

At least Im alive. I hope that the few drops I tasted wont kill me. It might very well have had.

Anyways. Ginseng tea is so much safer. I always knew HanMing was trying to kill me. He did supply the coffee. About 5 months ago. But I still swear he is trying to kill me.

Everyone is trying to kill me. (Runs away to little, safe, coffeeless corner)

AWAY FOUL FIENDS!

Breakfast for the Champions!

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce to you the most energy packed, carbohydrate loaded and deliciously delightful energy drink...

BEER!

Each can has close to 400Kcal of of energy, more then 3 times that of Coke.

It is made from fermented wheat. Meaning, it is pre-digested Carbohydrate. Meaning, your body can easily adsorb the wholesome goodness that each can of Beer provides.

This drink would make an awesome health suppliment when drunk at meals, or as standalone meal replacements. The amount of energy each can provides dictate that you should drink 2 cans to replace 1 meal. This gives you about 800Kcal of energy, or a third of the day's Calorie Requirement, for guys. Girls drink one and a half cans. 600Kcal is enough for you.

Such easily adsorbed energy would mean that you would be more active throughout the day!

Plus, you get a nice, tingly buzz from that teeny weeny alcohol percent. 5% for standard drinks, and a Whooping 8.8% for a Baron's Strong Brew. I suggest San Miguel for meal replacements. Its taste is magnificient and crisp, its much easier to get off the tongue then Tiger or Baron's.

Move over cereal. This is the REAL breakfast for the Champions!

-Disclaimer-

Clarence WILL NOT take responsibility to what you do when drunk, especially because you had 2 cans of beer for breakfast. If you drink then its your own damn business. Good day!

Scary Thoughts.

Woke up with organic chemisty reactions racing through my head. Woke up about 5 full minutes before my alarm rang. Woke up in less then 6hours from sleeping.

Well, I DID take it as a positive sign. Now Im not so sure. Must have screwed the quiz pretty darned badly. OC is one damn tough module, and the profs are NOT gonna make this easy.

Chemical Engineering.

Our course started with 199 people. After the 1st semester, only 189 were left. Now theres 173 remaining.

174 bottles of beer on the wall, 174 boootttlees of beeeer!!
Take one down, pass it around,
173 bottles of beer on the walll...

No way in hell that Im gonna drop out of this course. You profs better deal with me.

The Phantom of the Opera

Well. That picture wasnt exactly from the scene of the play. It does signify the swooning I did over it though.

Words find it hard to encompass the feel that the Phantom instilled.
Magical.
Stunning.
Superb.

It was a beautiful performance, worth every cent, and more. No wonder so many others wish to watch it again, and I agree!

Bravo!

Getting some sort of buzz from being able to comprehend my modules. Hope this turns out favourable, lol.

Night cycling.

Had Night cycling on Friday. Interesting. Expensive though, it wasnt like Hall 2 cycling, where 10bucks covered the bike, the shirt, AND supper.

We went the same route back and forth, and stopped for photos along the way. Not too bad. Wasnt too familar with the group I was with. Bascially I dont know many people in hall :).

Roomie broke his arm flipping from his bike. Discharged today. Crazy guy.
